The University of Missouri’s College of Agriculture, Food and Natural Resources (CAFNR) will host its sixth annual CAFNR Research Symposium at Memorial Union on Wednesday, Oct. 7.
The symposium highlights the remarkable work of CAFNR students, postdoctoral scholars, faculty and staff helping to create a healthier world through discovery and innovation.
“As a land-grant institution, CAFNR’s strength comes not only from the quality of our research, but also from our ability to connect ideas, disciplines and people,” said Shibu Jose, CAFNR Associate Dean for Research. “The symposium reflects that collaborative spirit, allowing us to learn from one another, explore new partnerships and engage with innovative work addressing important challenges in agriculture, food systems and natural resources.”
This year’s symposium will feature lightning talks, poster presentations, panel discussions and keynote speakers, including Richard Fordyce, USDA Under Secretary for Farm Production and Conservation; and Matthew David and Randy Olsen, ABT Course co-instructors.
Fordyce is a fourth-generation farmer from Bethany, Missouri, and in his role works with several key USDA agencies to ensure the delivery of conservation, farm loan, crop insurance and disaster assistance programs to farmers across the United States.
The ABT Framework, developed by Olson, is the cornerstone in his efforts to enhance scientific communication and beyond. It focuses on using the tripartite core of narrative structure — And, But, Therefore — to clarify and amplify messages, making complex information more accessible and engaging.
The symposium will run from 8 a.m. to 4:45 p.m. Coffee and pastries will be available during the morning poster session at 8 a.m. and appetizers will be available during the afternoon session at 3:10 p.m.
