Elizabeth Parks Named President of the Obesity Society

Elizabeth Parks, professor in nutrition and exercise physiology, was recently named president of the Obesity Society. The Obesity Society is a scientific membership organization dedicated to improving people’s lives by advancing scientific-based understanding of causes, consequences, prevention and treatment of obesity.

A 2018 graduate of the nutrition and exercise physiology degree program, Mubinah Khaleel is currently a third-year medical student at Lincoln Memorial University – DeBusk College of Osteopathic Medicine, in Harrogate, Tenn. Two Nutrition and Exercise Physiology Students Win Poster Awards

Neil McMillian and Eric Lis were awarded poster awards at the Cardiovascular Research Day hosted by the Dalton Cardiovascular Research Center. McMillian was awarded the Graduate Student award for his poster titled Increased Muscle Sympathetic Nerve Activity Hyperinsulinemia: Role of Insulin-simulated Peripheral Vasodilation and the Response of the Arterial Baroreflex. Lis was awarded the undergraduate Student Award for his poster titled Peripheral Chemoreflex Sensitivity is Augmented in Human Type 2 Diabetes.      …

The accelerated master’s coordinated program in dietetics within the nutrition and exercise physiology (NEP) degree program offers students a unique opportunity to earn two degrees in just five years. Students who complete the program come away with a bachelor’s degree in nutrition and exercise physiology, with an emphasis in nutrition and foods; a master’s degree in dietetics; and all of the internship hours necessary to take the registration examination for dietitians (RD Exam). Dain Jacobs Receives the American Heart Association Predoctoral Fellowship

Dain Jacob, doctoral student in Nutrition and Exercise Physiology, has received the prestigious American Heart Associate (AHA) Predoctoral Fellowship. The purpose of this fellowship is to enhance the integrated research and clinical training of promising students who are in a predoctoral or clinical health professional degree training program. Jacob is a doctoral student in the Limberg lab.

Senior Spotlight: Jordan Duenckel

As a senior in high school, Jordan Duenckel knew that he was going to continue his education at the University of Missouri – what he didn’t know was what he was going to study.
