The University of Missouri’s Northern Missouri Research, Extension and Education Center (NM-REEC) invites the public to its annual Field Day on Tuesday, Aug. 30, where attendees have the opportunity for an in-person look at research conducted at the REEC.
The event will take place at the Lee Greenley Jr. Memorial Research Farm just outside of Novelty, Missouri, and participants will learn about the latest in agricultural research with real-world applications.
“The field day is an opportunity for us to share the applied research being conducted on all of the farms within the northern REEC,” said NM-REEC Director Jeff Case. “Those in attendance will have the opportunity to interact with researchers, extension specialists and other professionals.”
This year’s program consists of three field tours beginning at 8 a.m. and is completed with a complimentary lunch starting at noon.
The tours offered include “Beef and Forage Management,” “Integrated Pest Management” and “Agronomic Management.” Topics will cover the value of corn grain processing and grazing corn residues, terrace tiled fields and landscape positions, a weed zapper demonstration, and much more. Speakers will include NM-REEC resident faculty as well as experts from MU Extension. For the full schedule, see the Mizzou calendar.
The Lee Greenley Jr. Memorial Research Farm was established when Hortense Greenley donated the farm to the University. The farm’s major objective is to evaluate efficient, profitable crop production in northern Missouri while emphasizing soil conservation, water quality and energy efficiency.
The NM-REEC facilities include 4,190 acres of land at three properties, including Lee Greenley Jr. Memorial Research Farm, each focused on research and educational needs of the local community.
