The Fisher Delta REEC was established in 1959 in Portageville, Mo., and was created to provide research and educational programs unique to the Missouri Bootheel region. In addition to a number of new hires to lead the research programs at the REEC, Fisher Delta has also invested in new infrastructure in an effort to continue its research excellence. Infrastructure improvements, new faculty allow Fisher Delta REEC to build on its strong community relationships.
CAFNR serves as a regular collaborator with USDA-ARS, including numerous current projects within the Cropping Systems and Water Quality Research Unit. One of those projects is focused on improving upon traditional soil carbon modeling approaches by incorporating measurements from multiple soil sensors. Andrew Thomas, a research assistant professor in the Division of Plant Science and Technology in the College of Agriculture, Food and Natural Resources (CAFNR) at the University of Missouri, has received a Specialty Crop Research Initiative (SCRI) grant from the U.S. Department of Agriculture for the project, Moving American Elderberry into Mainstream Production and Processing. The award is for $5,345,255 over a four-year period.

Andrew Thomas, research assistant professor in the Division of Plant Science and Technology, has received a $5 million Specialty Crop Research Initiative (SCRI) grant
(Left to right) Jay Chism, Dusty Walter, Jeff Case and Aaron Brandt were hired as directors of the Southwest REEC, Central Missouri REEC, Northern Missouri REEC and Fisher Delta REEC, respectively. Walter is joined by three assistant directors due to the size and complexity of the Central Missouri REEC. Tim Reinbott is the assistant director for natural resources, Andrew Biggs serves as the assistant director for crops and Bryon Wiegand is the interim assistant director for livestock.
