Hands-on opportunities are plentiful through the Hotel and Lodging Operations and Management (HSP_MGMT 3400) course. Students spend the semester applying theories learned in the classroom into actual industry settings. Remi Levinson, a senior hospitality management major, said that it was exciting to see how different hotels operate.

Greg Chase has returned to his alma mater a handful of times to share his expertise with University of Missouri students on proper dining etiquette in a business setting. Chase graduated with a degree in hospitality management from Mizzou in 2007, and is certified by the Protocol School of Washington as a corporate etiquette and international protocol consultant. Chase’s most recent trip to MU happened in March, with him offering advice on how students should conduct themselves during a meal in a professional setting – especially in light of the pandemic.

Two CAFNR Students Honored as Mizzou 18 Award Recipients

This week, the Mizzou Alumni Association and Alumni Association Student Board named the 2022 Mizzou 18 Award and Mizzou ’39 Award recipients. The Mizzou 18 Award is dedicated to honoring 18 University of Missouri graduate and professional students in the last year of their degree eligibility. Recipients are chosen for their world-class research, collaboration with faculty and staff, and their demonstrated leadership with undergraduate students. The Italy study abroad program is one of several summer offerings in CAFNR. The program takes place in the city of Florence, and is primarily for students interested in restaurant management or event planning – as well as Italian culture. Finding Joy in New Experiences

As a hospitality management student, Lauren Tippen was excited to participate in the Italy study abroad program last year through the University of Missouri College of Agriculture, Food and Natural Resources (CAFNR). That program is focused on the hospitality industry in Italy, as well as Italian culture. The pandemic forced the cancellation of the program, though, and Tippen, a senior, was unsure if she would have a similar opportunity during her collegiate career. “When it got cancelled, I was so upset and I really didn’t think I would have this opportunity again,” Tippen said. Dae-Young Kim and Beomjoo Kim Earn Best Paper Award

Dae-Young Kim, a professor of hospitality management, and Beomjoo Kim, a master’s student in hospitality management, received the best paper award at the Tourism Sciences Society of Korea (TOSOK) International Tourism Conference. Their paper was titled, “Effects of source and message on travel YouTube: Cognitive and affective destination images of S. Korea.” Dae-Young Kim’s research mainly focuses on consumer behavior and hospitality/tourism marketing. These two closely related fields involve the use of various research methods and applied strategies.
