Science Night at Jefferson Farm and Garden will be continuing this month! Science Night will be held Thursday, Aug. 19, at 5:30 p.m. Discussions will be centered around vegetables, butterflies and flowers.
The vegetable discussion will feature different varieties of tomatoes, different staking methods for tomatoes, cover crops and the different types of peppers. There will also be different tastings to enjoy!
Missouri Master Gardeners will have demonstration gardens with flowers and vegetables along with raised beds. They will offer tours of the mature wildflower meadow in the evening. The butterfly house of Jefferson Farm and Garden will be opened to enjoy.
“We are excited about this event since it combines several topics,” said Tim Reinbott, director of field operations for the Agricultural Experiment Stations. “Many homeowners and farmers are interested in attracting pollinators and grow different vegetables than they may be accustomed to. My favorite part of this event is the taste testing of different cherry tomatoes and husk cherries!”
Jefferson Farm and Garden is one of the University of Missouri College of Agriculture, Food and Natural Resources’ Agricultural Research Centers. The Center is located at 4800 East New Haven Road in Columbia. For questions about the event, contact Tim Reinbott at ReinbottT@missouri.edu or 573-882-4450.
