Highlighting Different Agricultural Topics

The Graves-Chapple Research Center field day set for Aug. 24.




The Graves-Chapple Research Center is set to host an in-person field day this year, on Tuesday, Aug. 24.

The free event will include breakfast, lunch and a variety of agricultural topics. Breakfast will begin at 7:30 a.m. with the first tour leaving at 8 a.m. and lunch will be served around noon.

“We are incredibly excited to host an in-person field day this year, after our virtual event last year,” said Superintendent Jim Crawford. “The speakers’ topics have been selected to answer the questions we are receiving and to highlight the work done at the Graves-Chapple Research Center.”

The integrated pest management tour will include an update on soybean gall midge from University of Missouri assistant professor of plant science Kevin Rice. Rice will also discuss new traps to quantify stink bugs in soybean fields. MU Graduate students Travis Winans and Haylee Schreier will also give a weed management update.

MU assistant professor in agricultural and applied economics Scott Brown will touch on critical drivers in the current market outlook for corn and soybeans. Other topics like the cost of soybean and corn production, farming carbon markers and input costs and crop yields will also be discussed.

“A wide variety of experts from the University of Missouri will be there to answer questions. Those experts will lead topic-specific discussions,” Crawford said.

The Graves-Chapple Research Center is one of the University of Missouri College of Agriculture, Food and Natural Resources’ (CAFNR) Agricultural Experiment Stations.
