A lot has changed in the 56 years that Eldon Cole has served as a University of Missouri Extension specialist, but one thing has remained incredibly consistent – Cole’s desire to build relationships with the Missourians he continually serves.

A Consistent Presence
Harly Durbin came to the University of Missouri as graduate research assistants in 2016 to work with Jared Decker on a $2 million grant that he earned in 2015. Durbin’s part of the project has been focused on data collection and organization related to hair shedding. Hair shedding is incredibly important for cattle, as removing that coat as the weather warms helps regulate temperature and keeps the cow cooler.

Making the Cut
The Center for Agroforestry’s Chung-Ho Lin, an associate research professor, and his lab are currently looking at how to redirect its analytical capacity (reverse-transcription and real-time qPCR) for the detection and quantification of COVID-19 in food, water and air – and develop mitigation techniques to reduce community exposure to COVID-19.

FAPRI released its most recent U.S. Agricultural Market Outlook in March – and has already released an additional report, which presents a preliminary analysis of the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on agricultural markets in the U.S.

Gathering Preliminary Data
Students in the College of Agriculture, Food and Natural Resources (CAFNR) don’t only receive a degree during their time in Columbia – they get the entire CAFNR experience. The CAFNR Experience has changed drastically in light of the recent changes required due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Michelle Brooks Receives Chancellor’s Outstanding Staff Award
The University of Missouri College of Agriculture, Food and Natural Resources’ atmospheric science program has trained and prepared meteorologists who are now spread throughout the United States, providing timely weather and climate information for the communities they serve. Two of those meteorologists serve one of the country’s largest cities – Nashville, Tennessee. Katy Morgan and Henry Rothenberg were classmates during their time at Mizzou and now serve as meteorologists for FOX 17 and News Channel 5, respectively. Photo courtesy of Katy Morgan.
