The Wurdack Research Center will host an in-person field day on Friday, Oct. 8.

The event is free and open to the public, with a lunch at noon sponsored by FCNB Bank. Registration will begin at 8:30 a.m. with tours starting at 9 a.m.

“We are so appreciative of their support that helps us continue to provide a free event for local producers,” said Dusty Walter, superintendent of the Wurdack Research Center.

Ashley Conway, assistant research professor in the Center for Agroforestry will speak about using shade to enhance herd productivity. Eric Meusch, field specialist in livestock will talk about body condition scoring as a planning tool.

Gatlin Bunton, field specialist in agronomy will cover grass weeds in forages and late season broadleaf weed management. Jordan Thomas, assistant extension professor will cover synchronization with natural service. Other topics such as timber sale methods and expectations by Dusty Walter and keeping animals on high quality forage/ hay by Harley Naumann will also be presented.

“We are excited to host an in-person field day this year,” said Walter. “This is a great opportunity for producers to engage with researchers and ask questions that help clarify a topic and its application on their farm.”

The Wurdack Research Center is one of the University of Missouri College of Agriculture, Food and Natural Resources’ (CAFNR) Agricultural Experiment Stations. The Center conducts demonstrations and research in integrated livestock, forages, forestry, and wildlife management practices.
