University of Missouri’s T.E. “Jake” Fisher Delta Research, Extension and Education Center (FD-REEC) invites the public to its second annual Ag Research Expo Thursday, Aug. 22.

Farmers and other individuals will have the opportunity for an in-person look at the latest research conducted at the REEC as well as an opportunity to talk to and see demonstrations from several industry partners. This event will combine the traditional field day experience with an indoor expo allowing participants to see research in action as well as have conversations with a number of suppliers, state departments, associations and other partners with valuable resources for Missouri’s farmers.

“The Ag Research Expo is a great way for Missouri’s agricultural producers to talk directly with some of the top researchers in the country,” said FD-REEC Director Aaron Brandt. “We love the opportunity to share our work and know that it will help Missouri farmers improve their own practices. Having industry partners onsite makes it possible for farmers to return home and make well-informed choices for their operations.”

The event will be held from 7 a.m. to noon, and will feature self-guided tours of research fields; hands-on, interactive chats with researchers, grad students and industry partners; in-field equipment demonstrations of the latest technology; and market outlook talks from experts. Coffee and donuts will be served in the morning, and free grab-n-go lunches will also be provided to participants. The Expo is free and open to the public. No registration is required.

FD-REEC faculty will give presentations on several topics including tarnished plant bug in cotton, peanuts in Missouri, soybean planting dates, rice in Missouri and soybean updates. University of Missouri Extension faculty will also present on marketing, drought, financial management and late soybean diseases.

Participating industry partners include BASF, Bayer, Corteva, Progeny, Syngenta, ADAMA, FMC, Southernstates Drone, Case and John Deere. Additional partners and stakeholders will also have booths inside Rone Hall.

See the Mizzou calendar for more information.

Events will take place at Rone Hall, 102 County Road 308, Portageville, MO.

The Fisher Delta Research, Extension, and Education Center was established in 1959 in Portageville, Mo., to provide research and educational programs unique to the Southeast Delta Region of the state and to function as a Center for University programs, educational meetings, workshops, short courses, 4-H training and field days.

The FD-REEC facilities include 1,119 acres of land at five locations representing the major soil types of the region. Research studies are designed to improve production of crops that are of major importance to the region; namely soybeans, cotton, rice, grain sorghum, wheat, peanuts and possible new crops that could economically benefit the area.

In 2011, the Center was renamed in honor of T.E. “Jake” Fisher, long-time superintendent.
