Pei Liu, associate professor of hospitality management, has been named the recipient of the 2026 Outstanding Graduate Mentor Award in recognition of her exceptional dedication to graduate student success, scholarly mentorship and professional development. The award was presented April 23 at CAFNR’s Celebration of Excellence awards ceremony.

Liu fosters a supportive and intellectually rigorous environment that empowers graduate students to excel in research, teaching and career advancement, nominators say. She actively integrates her funded research program into graduate training, supporting students through research assistantships, co‑authored publications and conference presentations, and mentorship in applying for external grants.

Liu is equally committed to preparing students for teaching and professional careers. She provides hands‑on opportunities in course instruction, curriculum development and pedagogical training, helping students build confidence and effectiveness in the classroom.

The impact of Liu’s mentorship is evident in the accomplishments of her former advisees, many of whom have secured tenure‑track faculty positions at institutions such as Cornell University and the University of North Texas, while others have transitioned into successful leadership roles in industry.

“Dr. Liu’s mentorship extends well beyond graduation,” said Yidan Huang, former master’s student and assistant professor at the University of North Texas. “Her guidance has had a lasting influence on her students’ scholarly growth and professional trajectories.”

Pei Liu’s sustained commitment to graduate education and mentorship makes her a highly deserving recipient of this award and a valued leader within CAFNR.
