Students see success at Midwest American Society of Animal Science Meeting
Animal sciences students attended the Midwest American Society of Animal Science Meeting March 9-12 in Omaha, Nebraska. At the meeting, the Academic Quadrathlon Team secured their fourth consecutive first-place finish. The team includes seniors Kaylee Spencer (Griggsville, Ill.), Shannon Draper (Sedalia, Colo.), Grace Lloyd (Ellington, Mo.), and Ben Byrd (Troy, Mo.), who participated in the two-day event consisting of lab practical stations for a variety of species, oral presentations to industry professionals and scholars, a written exam, and a quiz bowl. Animal Sciences Ph.D. student awarded travel grant for Plant and Animal Genomics Conference
Hunter McConnell, an Animal Sciences Ph.D. student, has been awarded the NRSP8 Travel Award to attend the 2025 Plant and Animal Genomics Conference (PAG32) in January.

Fourth annual CAFNR Research Symposium poster winners announced
The fourth annual CAFNR Research Symposium was held Tuesday, Oct. 1, and included a poster session. Undergraduate and graduate students as well as postdocs contributed posters to the session. In total, 89 posters were exhibited.

Ahmed Balboula receives Provost’s Outstanding Junior Faculty Research and Creative Activity Award
Ahmed Balboula, assistant professor, Division of Animal Sciences, received the Provost’s Outstanding Junior Faculty Research and Creative Activity Award. Research conducted in the Balboula laboratory employs cutting-edge imaging technologies, transgenic mouse models and genetic approaches to understand the molecular mechanisms regulating mammalian oocyte meiosis and early embryonic development. This award gives special recognition to junior faculty, who are in the early phases of their careers, for superior research and creative activity on the MU campus.
