Kiruba Krishnaswamy, an associate professor of chemical and biomedical engineering and food, nutrition and exercise sciences, was recognized for her service in July at the Institute of Food Technologists (IFT) Food Improved by Research, Science and Technology (FIRST) Annual Event and Expo in Chicago.

Krishnaswamy holds the MU Pillars of Pursuit – Food Sustainability joint position in the College of Engineering and the College of Agriculture, Food and Natural Resources. She leads the Food Engineering and Sustainable Technologies research program addressing interconnected challenges of food and nutrition security.

At the IFT FIRST 2026 event, held at McCormick Place in Chicago from July 12-15, Krishnaswamy was recognized with the IFT International Division’s 2026 Outstanding Service Award.

“I am deeply honored and sincerely grateful to receive the IFT International Division Outstanding Service Award,” Krishnaswamy said. “My heartfelt thanks to the International Division leadership and members for this recognition. I share this honor with the many students, colleagues, collaborators and friends who have supported and enriched this journey.”

IFT is a global community working across industry, academia and government to improve and promote food science. The IFT International Division seeks to promote international communication and technology transfer between food scientists, hosting members from across the globe.
