Clare Staley, a sophomore majoring in agribusiness management, was recognized as CAFNR’s 2026 Outstanding Sophomore at the college’s annual Celebration of Excellence. The awards ceremony took place April 23.

Staley is involved in various student organizations, including Sigma Alpha professional agriculture sorority, National Agri-Marketing Association (NAMA), Agribusiness Club and Collegiate Farm Bureau.

She is also a student research assistant with the University of Missouri Agricultural Business and Policy Extension Office. Coworkers have seen her excel since she joined them in September 2025.

“She has said yes to every opportunity we have offered her to develop new skills and accept more responsibility,” said Mallory Rahe, associate extension professor. “These qualities make her not only a strong employee, but also a strong ambassador for the college.”

Ben Brown, a state extension specialist, said Staley’s qualities have helped her trailblaze what student success looks like in her position.

“Her work ethic, reliability and clear communication style sets her apart,” he said. “Clare has shown consistent professionalism and dedication to Extension’s mission of supporting agricultural producers.”

Rahe said Staley’s positive outlook showcases her genuine commitment to making her mark in the agriculture community.

“Clare signs off every email with the salutation of ‘Joyfully,’ and this is a very apt description of how she approaches her undergraduate internship with us and her desire to learn more about Missouri agriculture,” she said. “She displays strong character, is cheerful and makes a positive contribution to our office as she learns how to educate and serve producers through Extension work.”
