The Agricultural Business Council of Kansas City honored Scott Brown, associate extension professor in the Division of Applied Social Sciences, with the group’s prestigious Jay B. Eric Aldrich awarded Maxine Christopher Shutz Award & Lecture for Distinguished Teaching
Eric Aldrich, assistant teaching professor, School of Natural Resources, has been awarded the Maxine Christopher Shutz Award & Lecture for Distinguished Teaching as part of the 2024 Faculty Excellence Week. As a result of the generosity of the late Byron T. and Maxine Christopher Shutz, an endowment was established in 1982 to recognize distinguished teachers from the Columbia campus. The award will be presented to a faculty member who has demonstrated extra efforts to involve undergraduates in active learning experiences and to personalize the undergraduate experience of students.

Alan Spell recognized with Provost’s Award for Creative Extension Programming by New Faculty
Alan Spell, assistant extension professor, Division of Applied Social Sciences, has been chosen to receive the Provost’s Award for Creative Extension Programming by New Faculty. Spell specializes in economic and industry research for MU Extension’s Exceed program. Spell’s work includes publishing the monthly Missouri Economy Indicator briefs, conducting broadband studies and industry economic impact analyses, and providing data training. This award recognizes faculty with a current (at least 25 percent) extension assignment who have made exceptional accomplishments in their first four years of service to MU in the field of extension or continuing education.

Scott Peck receives Provost’s Award for Leadership in International Education
Scott Peck, professor, Division of Biochemistry, and member of the Interdisciplinary Plant Group, has been chosen to receive the Provost’s Award for Leadership in International Education. This award recognizes faculty who have provided outstanding leadership in strengthening the University of Missouri’s international dimension by demonstrating outstanding leadership in international education by virtue of their contributions.

Ahmed Balboula receives Provost’s Outstanding Junior Faculty Research and Creative Activity Award
Ahmed Balboula, assistant professor, Division of Animal Sciences, received the Provost’s Outstanding Junior Faculty Research and Creative Activity Award. Research conducted in the Balboula laboratory employs cutting-edge imaging technologies, transgenic mouse models and genetic approaches to understand the molecular mechanisms regulating mammalian oocyte meiosis and early embryonic development. This award gives special recognition to junior faculty, who are in the early phases of their careers, for superior research and creative activity on the MU campus.
