Bissonnette Receives Faces of the Future Award from American Phytopathological Society
Kaitlyn Bissonnette, assistant Extension professor, plant sciences, has been awarded the Schroth Faces of the Future award from the American Phytopathological Society for her work in applied nematology and Extension nematology. This award is given to forward-thinking scientists within 10 years of earning their PhD who are perceived to be future leaders in the field. Bissonnette coordinates a regional applied nematology project exploring the impacts of soybean cyst nematode (SCN) seed treatments on SCN reproduction and soybean yield across more than 12 US states and one Canadian province. Sarah Low Receives Provost’s Award for Creative Extension Programming by New Faculty
Sarah Low, associate professor of regional economics in the Division of Applied Social Sciences, received the 2020 Provost’s Award for Creative Extension Programming by New Faculty. This award recognizes faculty with a current (at least 25 percent) Extension appointment who have had exceptional extension or continuing education accomplishments in their first four years of their service to the University of Missouri. Low’s Extension program focuses on economic and entrepreneurial development as a rural and regional economic development strategy and enhancing economic development opportunities by providing high-quality research and insights to partner organizations.

Kevin Bradley Recognized as North Central Weed Science Society Fellow at Annual Meeting
Kevin Bradley, professor in the Division of Plant Sciences, was recognized as a North Central Weed Science Society Fellow at the 2020 NCWSS annual meeting. The virtual meeting was held from Nov. 30 to Dec. 2. Selection as a Fellow is recognition of substantial contributions to weed science endeavors and service in the north central region of the United States. Bradley’s faculty appointment includes Extension and research responsibilities in the area of weed management in corn, soybean, wheat, pastures and forages. Mandy Bish Earns Distinguished Achievement Research Award
Mandy Bish, Extension specialist in the Division of Plant Sciences, was recognized at the 2020 North Central Weed Science Society annual meeting with a Distinguished Achievement Research award, which recognizes outstanding research achievements in weed science. The virtual meeting was held from Nov. 30 to Dec. 2. Bish has been with the university since 2014 and is responsible for assisting with direction and focus of research and education programs related to weed management in Missouri. MU Faculty Part of Gene Editing Task Force
The Association of Public and Land-grant Universities (APLU) and the Association of American Veterinary Medical Colleges (AAVMC) recently announced an 11-person Gene Editing Task Force, which includes two individuals from the University of Missouri: Bhanu Telugu (associate professor) and Londa Nwadike (food safety state specialist, MU Extension). The 11-person task force is comprised of scientists and industry leaders who will map out recommendations for regulating this emerging genomic technology in animal agriculture with appropriate safeguards and procedures.

Mallory Rahe is an associate extension professor at the University of Missouri. She approaches her work in the area of regional and agricultural economic development with an emphasis on assisting producers or stakeholders that are engaging in on-farm investments or considering public investment options. She provides applied research, data analysis and trends, and supports strategic decision making. Mandy Bish
Bish’s main research focus is the management of current and emerging pathogens to corn and soybean. Information generated from the research is applied to her extension programming efforts. She utilizes programs already in place, such as the Mizzou On-Farm Strip Trial Program to compliment small plot research that evaluates the efficacy of disease management practices either alone or in combination. Bish also has an interest in exploring interactions among pathogens, disease management tactics, and the environment.
