Research Summary
Because of the long breeding cycle in woody plant species like grape, developing molecular markers linked to genes of horticultural and morphological traits for use in marker-assisted selection can greatly accelerate the breeding process and allow much more accurate selection of progeny. The research program of Chin Feng Hwang focuses on the development of molecular genetic tools to expedite a Norton (Vitis aestivalis) grape breeding effort with the ultimate goal of improving its viticultural performance and enological quality.
