Gerig is an ecologist for the National Park Service. His responsibilities include coordinating the Great Rivers Cooperative Ecosystem Studies Unit headquartered at the University of Missouri. In addition, Gerig serves as a science advisor to parks in the Midwest region on a diversity of aquatic related management issues including representing NPS interests on the Missouri River Recovery and Implementation Committee (MRRIC). Previously, he served as an associate professor teaching and conducting research on a diversity of applied aquatic and fisheries issues in the Upper Great Lakes and as fish biologist working with threatened and endangered fish in the Upper Colorado River basin.
