Mizzou, SLU meteorology students meet annually to discuss weather technology

Meteorologists know the importance of planning around the weather. In today’s world, there’s always some new technology or innovation that helps with accuracy when it comes to forecasting. It takes a team of people to recognize when something new is needed to ensure the safety of the public, and meetings are one way this collaboration can happen.

MU Collegiate Soil Judging places 3rd at regional contest, helps out rival team

Last month, the MU Collegiate Soil Judging Team took home third place at the 2025 Region V Soil Judging Contest in Omaha, advancing to the 2026 National Collegiate Soil Judging contest in Raleigh, North Carolina, this upcoming spring. Mizzou’s team is the largest collegiate soil judging team in the nation, and although 24 Mizzou students competed in the contest, only 21 actually competed for the Tigers.

2025 Column Awards recognize outstanding CAFNR alumni

The College of Agriculture, Food and Natural Resources honored six recipients with the 2025 CAFNR Column Award for Distinguished Alumni at an event Thursday, Nov. 6. This is the only award specifically for alumni presented by the college – the highest honor bestowed by the College in celebration of outstanding alumni. The awardee class includes one graduate from each of CAFNR’s six divisions, reflecting the six historic columns at the University of Missouri.

Celebrating Missouri’s perennial harvest at the Missouri Chestnut Roast Festival

This year’s Missouri Chestnut Roast will take place 10 a.m. – 3 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 18, at HARF, and will include crowd-favorite activities such as roasted chestnut samples, live music, kids' activities and tours of the historic Hickman House. This year the festival also offers opportunities to buy a locally sourced lunch prepared by Pasta La Fata, take a wagon tour of the research farm, purchase plants and trees, pick your own pumpkin, sample custom-made agroforestry ice cream flavors crafted by Buck’s Ice Cream Place, and explore more than 30 agroforestry vendors, educational organizations and artisans.

Christine C. Brodsky

Christine Brodsky is an Assistant Professor of Urban Ecology at the University of Missouri in the School of Natural Resources. She holds a Ph.D. from the University of Missouri, M.S. from the University of Delaware, and B.S. from the University of Massachusetts. Her dissertation research was conducted within the Baltimore Ecosystem Study, a Long-Term Ecological Research (LTER) program. After completing her Ph.D., she worked as a faculty member within Pittsburg State University’s Biology Department. She is a Certified Wildlife Biologist and currently serves on the Advisory Board for the Urban Biodiversity and Design (URBIO) international network. Brodsky also has a…
