14 CAFNR students awarded Mizzou Forward Undergraduate Research Training Grants

Fourteen CAFNR students have been awarded Mizzou Foward Undergraduate Research Training Grants. The purpose of these fellowships is to financially support undergraduate students who are serious about pursuing a graduate education in STEM and NSF-funded fields in order to enhance their opportunity to be admitted into the graduate school of their choice.

Recent food science graduate wins trip to QCS

As a result of his success at the National Dairy Products Evaluation contest on April 16 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Kevin Trieu (B.S. Food Science and Nutrition ’24) received an all-expense paid trip to the QCS Fall Annual Conference held on Oct. 20 – 22 at the Hilton Denver City Center located in Denver, Colorado. Trieu placed first in the All Products division at the National Dairy Products Evaluation contest, winning both the QCS trip and a $1,000 donation from QCS to support the MU Dairy Products Evaluation Team. Product development is sweet

Food science and nutrition students spent the fall semester developing other UM System universities’ answer to Tiger Stripe ice cream.

Memphis Bancroft is in the accelerated master’s program within the food science and nutrition degree program, which allows student’s to complete both a bachelor’s degree and a master’s degree in just five years. Bancroft is a senior, which means she is close to finishing her undergraduate degree while getting a jumpstart on her master’s degree.

Finding the Perfect Degree

When Memphis Bancroft made the decision to pursue a food science and nutrition degree at the University of Missouri she didn’t realize the real-world application of what she was studying would be so immediate. When Bancroft chose the degree program her mother was on a very restrictive diet due to a colon cancer diagnosis. “With the effects of surgery we had to find food that fit the bill and wouldn’t cause more issues,” Bancroft said. “Her diet was really tough – she really couldn’t have much fiber, protein or dairy.
