Secley Kennedy, building coordinator for Agricultural Engineering, William Stringer and Eckles Hall, is the recipient of CAFNR’s 2025 Safety Leadership Award for her unwavering commitment to safety and facility management. Kennedy also serves as executive assistant and project coordinator in the Division of Food, Nutrition and Exercise Sciences.
Responsible for more than 140,000 square feet of occupied space, Kennedy ensures the safety and security of diverse labs, classrooms, offices and event spaces, accommodating multiple CAFNR divisions, USDA and the College of Engineering.
Navigating the unique challenges of overseeing three buildings, she plays a critical role in communication and safety implementation. Recently, she has been instrumental in major projects, including the Fermentation Lab project and associated lab moves. In times of crisis, such as the significant flooding in the Agricultural Engineering Building, Kennedy’s swift action and clear communication ensured the safety of building occupants and an efficient remediation process.
A proactive leader, she identifies potential hazards, fosters collaboration and remains open to new ideas for improving campus safety.
“There is no hierarchy in who or how she serves—she listens, communicates and finds solutions,” nominators say.
Kennedy’s dedication and leadership make her an invaluable asset to CAFNR and MU, setting a high standard for safety and facility management.
