Mandy Bish, assistant professor and state extension crop pathologist in the Division of Plant Science & Technology, has been named the recipient of the 2026 J.W. Burch State Specialist Agricultural Extension Award in recognition of her outstanding impact on Missouri agriculture through research‑driven, innovative Extension programming. She received the award April 23 at CAFNR’s Celebration of Excellence awards ceremony.

Since joining MU Extension, Bish has rapidly established herself as a trusted leader in field crop disease identification and management. She has identified two diseases previously unreported in Missouri field crops, and, in each instance, she worked collaboratively with growers, extension field specialists and industry partners to diagnose the issue, alert stakeholders and secure funding to support future research and management efforts.

Bish is widely recognized for her ability to translate complex research findings into timely, actionable information for producers. She has pioneered a statewide crop and pest text alert system to deliver rapid updates directly to clientele and leads MU Integrated Pest Management outreach across multiple digital platforms, including podcasts, social media and online resources. Her creative Extension programming has increased engagement while improving knowledge retention among producers and agribusiness professionals.

“Dr. Bish excels at identifying critical problems and delivering science‑based solutions to those who need them most,” said nominator Kevin Bradley, professor, state extension weed scientist and education director, Plant Science and Technology. “Her ability to connect with producers is exceptional.”

Through impactful research, innovative outreach and strong partnerships, Mandy Bish exemplifies excellence in agricultural Extension and is highly deserving of this honor.
