Shannon Mulvania-Beck

What are your job duties/job responsibilities in the College of Agriculture, Food and Natural Resources?

I am the research writer on CAFNR’s communications team. I work with faculty and graduate students across the college to tell the stories of all of the amazing research that happens in CAFNR and the impact of that research.

How long have you worked in CAFNR?

Almost three years.

What do you enjoy about working for CAFNR/Mizzou?

I am a naturally curious person, and because of the nature of my role here along with the vast diversity of the disciplines studied in CAFNR, I get to continue learning something new almost daily. No two projects are ever the same, and I always come away with new knowledge.

What do you enjoy doing in your free time?

I spend a lot of time with my family, which includes my husband, Andrew; my 10-year-old son, Declan; my 17-year-old step son, James; our French bulldog, Hemingway; two cats, Lizzie and Leon; and four very spoiled chickens, Bertha, DJ, Angelica and Penelope.

I also love to get outdoors on Columbia’s wonderful trail system.

What is something your co-workers/other CAFNR employees don’t know about you?

I am very proud of the fact that I share a resume bullet point with former US Secretary of State Madeleine Albright. I come from a newspaper background, and I worked at the Rolla Daily News in my hometown for a few years. Albright also wrote for the RDN while her husband was stationed at Fort Leonard Wood. It was one of her first jobs, and she wrote about it in her memoir, Madame Secretary.
