Q: Why did you choose to come to the University of Missouri?
A: I chose to attend the University of Missouri for several reasons, primarily because of my degree program. Very few schools offer Personal Financial Planning in the same way that Mizzou does. Additionally, Mizzou has always been my college team, and I grew up attending Mizzou sporting events. For me, it felt like I always knew that Mizzou would be my college home.
Q: What made you decide to pursue your degree?
A: From a young age, I knew I wanted to study Personal Financial Planning and become a financial advisor. I have always loved math, managing money, and most importantly, helping people. Recognizing that this was my calling, I found Mizzou’s program uniquely appealing. The opportunity to fulfill the education requirements for the Certified Financial Planner exam while still in school was a significant draw. Furthermore, the small class sizes, personable professors, and tight-knit student groups confirmed that the PFP program was the right choice for me.
Q: Did you get involved in any research, study abroad, or internship opportunities? If so, what did you enjoy about those experiences?
A: Last spring, I studied abroad in the Netherlands. I truly enjoyed meeting an amazing group of people that I wouldn’t normally interact with on campus. Spending a week abroad not only provided many wonderful cultural and educational experiences but also allowed me to grow closer to my travel companions and learn more about them. Studying abroad encourages people to step out of their comfort zones, leading to shared new experiences and stories with peers. I now consider everyone I traveled with to be a friend.
Q: What is a memory you have during your time in CAFNR?
A: One of my favorite memories during my time in CAFNR was taking an experiential learning trip to Dallas, Texas, with the Hospitality Management program. This trip significantly enhanced my college experience. During our time there, I practiced many professional skills and networked with top industry executives. This experience was particularly memorable because, even though it wasn’t my major and I didn’t know any of the other students on the trip, I felt a true sense of belonging for the first time in my college journey.
Q: How did your degree and CAFNR prepare you for the future?
A: CAFNR not only prepared me academically but also helped me build and refine various professional skills. Through career fairs, industry tours, and interview and salary negotiation preparation, CAFNR provided an incredible support system and a safe environment to grow. Additionally, it helped me connect with amazing people who have become some of my closest friends and who I will likely remain close to throughout my life.
Q: What are your plans after graduation?
A: After graduation, I plan to study for and take the Certified Financial Planner exam. Following that, I intend to accept a position with Edward Jones.
