Amy Petry receives 2025 Outstanding Early Career Teacher Award

Amy Petry, an assistant professor in the Division of Animal Sciences, is the recipient of CAFNR’s 2025 Outstanding Early Career Teacher Award.  

Recognized for her dedication to student success, innovative teaching methods and commitment to experiential learning, Petry has made a profound impact in her short time on campus. 

Teaching core courses at multiple levels, she integrates hands-on learning, problem-solving and industry connections to prepare students for real-world challenges. She revamped her Monogastric Nutrition into a research-intensive course, implementing team-based learning, applied case studies and professional development opportunities.  

Students describe Petry’s style as “unique and refreshing” and her classroom environment as “inclusive and supportive,” stating that from day one she acknowledged the “challenges students face in their academic and personal lives.”  

“She tirelessly strives to move students beyond memorization to true problem-solving,” said nominators Trista Strauch and Bryon Wiegand. “The deliberate application of knowledge forces students to become not a passive participant in their education but instead a developing scientist.” 

Petry’s dedication to teaching excellence, innovative curriculum development and impactful mentorship make her a deserving recipient of this award and a valued member of the CAFNR community, nominators say.
