R. Tharindu Rambadagalla, a master’s graduate from the School of Natural Resources, has been named the recipient of the 2026 CAFNR William R. Lamberson Distinguished Thesis Award. He is recognized for his exceptional research rigor, interdisciplinary approach and significant contributions to understanding soil health and sustainable agricultural systems. He received the award at the April 23 CAFNR Celebration of Excellence awards ceremony.

Rambadagalla’s thesis explored the effects of cover crops and tillage systems on nitrogen cycling, soil carbon storage and soil microbial dynamics. Through three integrated research studies, he developed a cohesive body of work that enhances scientific understanding of how management practices influence nutrient efficiency, soil resilience and long‑term sustainability.

Throughout his graduate program, Tharindu consistently exceeded academic expectations, producing three publishable thesis chapters with manuscripts currently under review in leading soil science journals. In addition to his research accomplishments, he was a dedicated collaborator and mentor, supporting fellow students with fieldwork, laboratory analysis and data interpretation.

“Tharindu’s work reflects exceptional scientific maturity and dedication,” said nominator Morgan Davis, assistant professor and Rambadagalla’s advisor. “His ability to integrate complex experiments into a clear and impactful research narrative makes him highly deserving of this recognition.”

Rambadagalla’s scholarly excellence and commitment to advancing sustainable agriculture make him a worthy recipient of this distinguished award and a valued member of the CAFNR community.
