Writing retreats with Mizzou Division of Research
Need a quiet place and a change of scenery to sort through a large grant proposal? The Division of Research is hosting three writing retreats for the research community this semester. Come and go as you please, and the professional development team will be on hand to give you helpful feedback and bounce ideas off of. When: Sept. 19 and Oct. 27, 9:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m. Bond LSC Room 171 and Nov. 17 9:30 a.m. – 1 p.m. at the Conley House. Register: mizzou.us/WritingRetreats

Applications due Oct. 10 for Brown Fellowship for International Research
Graduate students in CAFNR can receive up to $7,500 to support international research through the Brown Fellowship. This program encourages U.S. graduate students to incorporate an international perspective into their career goals. Fellowship funds may be used to collect research data and gain firsthand experience with agricultural cultures and institutions outside the U.S. Research proposals in the food, agricultural and natural resource sciences are eligible. Applicants must be U.S. citizens pursuing a research degree (thesis-based master’s or Ph.D.). Contact Kerry Clark, clarkk@missouri.edu, for an application. Deadline is October 10, 2025.

10 Mizzou faculty members named Curators’ Distinguished Professors, including 4 with CAFNR ties

The University of Missouri Board of Curators recently named 10 University of Missouri faculty members Curators’ Distinguished Professors and Curators’ Distinguished Teaching Professors.

The designation is the highest and most prestigious academic rank the Board of Curators awards. It is awarded to a select few outstanding scholars with established reputations. This year’s recipients with CAFNR ties include:

  • Curators’ Distinguished Professor Donald Burke-Agüero, a professor of molecular microbiology and immunology in the School of Medicine and a principal investigator at Bond Life Sciences Center with a courtesy appointment in the Department of Biochemistry
  • Curators’ Distinguished Professor R. Scott Rector, a professor of nutrition and exercise physiology in the School of Medicine with a joint appointment in the College of Agriculture, Food and Natural Resources, director of the Roy Blunt NextGen Precision Health building and associate dean for basic sciences in the School of Medicine
  • Curators’ Distinguished Professor John “Jack” Tanner, a professor of biochemistry with joint appointments in the College of Agriculture, Food and Natural Resources and the School of Medicine
  • Curators’ Distinguished Professor Wesley Warren, a professor of genomics in the College of Agriculture, Food and Natural Resources and a principal investigator at Bond Life Sciences Center
