We made it through another busy year, and tomorrow we celebrate our Spring 2024 graduates at CAFNR’s commencement, 8:30 a.m. in Mizzou Arena. It’s among my favorite days as a dean, so please join us if you are able. It was an honor celebrating amazing faculty, staff, students and friends at our annual Celebration of Excellence awards ceremony last month. Thank you to everyone who joined us – and congratulations to all awardees! In addition, many CAFNR faculty have been honored by Mizzou this spring with awards. Congratulations to Eric Aldrich, Alan Spell, Scott Peck, Ahmed Balboula and Corinne Valdivia! They were each celebrated at an event at the end of April. During Mizzou’s annual celebration of staff later this month, you may wish to attend the Staff Recognition Awards ceremony on Thursday, May 23, at 1:30 p.m. in Bush Auditorium in Cornell Hall. Staff are encouraged to take advantage of many professional development opportunities as well as a free lunch and resource fair on Tuesday, May 21, from 10:30-12:30 at the MU Student Center. We are excited to offer a floral design class with Tiger Garden! I am grateful for the great staff on this campus and in our college, and this opportunity to celebrate you! Please make plans to join faculty and staff at the Backyard BBQ hosted by CAFNR’s Staff Advisory Council Wednesday, May 22, 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Courtyard between ABNR and the Ag Building. To date in May, my calendar included: - The MU Chairs Professional Development Workshop
- A celebration for CAFNR Extension faculty and staff, hosted by Vice Chancellor for Extension and Engagement Chad Higgins
- MU Engagement and External Relations Work Group meetings
- The annual evaluation of direct reports
- Participation in searches for campus positions, including the Provost and Dean of the College of Engineering
- Meetings about the Meat Science Laboratory project
Still to come this month I will: - Attend the CAFNR, Arts & Science and Honors College Commencement ceremonies
- Participate in a Grape and Wine Institute Wine Tasting event with fellow MU deans
- Attend the Graduate Institute of Cooperative Leadership closing reception and dinner
- Attend Council of Deans meeting and luncheon
- Travel to Chicago for Institute of Food Technologists meetings
- Attend the retirement reception for Sara Parker Pauley, director of the Missouri Department of Conservation
Enjoy a quieter campus after this week! Hope it is a productive summer for everyone in CAFNR. CAFNR Proud, Christopher R. Daubert, Ph.D.
