Message from the Dean

Spring is the busiest time on a college campus, and I enjoy all of the celebrations this month and next in CAFNR and across Mizzou!

CAFNR Unlimited Banquet and Auctions raised big funds for student scholarships and experiences this past Saturday – and was such a fun event! Thank you to our alumni and donors who come every year to celebrate CAFNR. I am grateful to CAFNR staff members Laura Friedrich, Amy Moum, Reagan Brown and Michelle Niemeyer for planning the event with our CAFNR Alumni Association for its 29th year! I was also pleased with our Mizzou Giving Day fundraising efforts earlier this week. Thank you for supporting of our college during this effort!

Next month I encourage you to join us for two special events that showcase CAFNR’s excellence – in different ways:

  • Monday, April 8, is the annual Mizzou Showcase at the Agricultural Business Council of Kansas City. This luncheon meeting will feature speaker Chad Higgins, MU’s newly appointed chief engagement officer and vice chancellor for extension and engagement. Dr. Higgins is a wonderful partner to CAFNR and I know attendees will enjoy hearing about his vision for MU Extension. Please make plans to join us; the luncheon runs 11:30 a.m. to 1:15 p.m. and will be at Kansas City’s Union Station. Registration is available online.
  • Tuesday, April 16, we celebrate CAFNR’s outstanding students, faculty and staff at our annual Celebration of Excellence. Join us at 4 p.m. in the Bond Life Sciences Center for appetizers, followed by the awards ceremony, wrapping up with desserts and congratulations for all those recognized! Registration is not required; just come and support your colleagues and students.

This month I …

  • Attended planning meetings for the Meat Science Lab
  • Participated in Campus Master Planning meetings
  • Took part in various faculty interviews
  • Attended the Missouri 100 Winter Reception
  • Traveled to Chicago for Institute for Food Technologists board meetings
  • Enjoyed visiting with staff at the Dean’s Traveling Office Hours
  • Had breakfast with CAFNR donors
  • Participated in Council of Deans Meetings

Still to come this month:

  • Welcoming Executive-in-Residence Laura Furgione March 18-20. Laura is a 1994 graduate of Atmospheric Sciences and is the Chief Administrative Officer for the U.S. Census Bureau.
  • Participating in an IFT Board meeting via Zoom
  • Being part of the Mizzou Collegiate Farm Bureau Farm Forum Event

Please make plans to join us next Thursday, March 21 at 3:30 p.m. in 2-6 Agriculture Building for our March CAFNR Faculty and Staff meeting. Dean Garton and Director Buecking will update us on all that is happening in the Academic Programs Office and in Plant Science and Technology.

I encourage you to enjoy some down time over spring break, whether you take time away or enjoy the campus quiet!

CAFNR Proud,

Christopher R. Daubert, Ph.D.
