It is wonderful to see campus busy again!

So far this month I have met with Interdisciplinary Plant Group leadership; University of Missouri President Mun Choi; Missouri Sen. Dan Hegeman; and with Jamie Szabo, Mizzou’s director of research analytics, about the Campus Data Hub. I attended the CAFNR policy committee meeting; CAFNR Staff Council’s traveling office hours in SNR; and the Big Ideas Summit with campus leaders. I appreciated welcoming Kim Lecompte as CAFNR’s new HR rep, and attending CAFNR’s Fall Round-Up, which introduces new students to the many clubs and organizations offered in the college.

I enjoyed serving as guest lecturer for the Agribusiness Management course “Intro to Ag Policy” where I spoke about the land-grant system. It’s always nice to be back in the classroom!

CAFNR celebrated two exciting events last week. On Thursday, Mizzou leaders and Greg DeLine, president and CEO of DeLine Holdings, joined CAFNR to host the grand opening of the DeLine Community Research Site. This public-private partnership will benefit CAFNR researchers, students and the community with opportunities to engage with the natural environment. And on Friday, I enjoyed the CAFNR Tiger Classic Golf Tournament and Steak Fry. We were at full capacity for teams, which meant we raised as much money as we could for student scholarships and other educational opportunities. Our alumni always make me CAFNR PROUD!

For the first time, I got to enjoy Mizzou’s Family Weekend from the parent perspective! My son Maxwell is a sophomore at the University and a proud Mizzou Tiger.

This week I attend the Agribusiness Business Council of Kansas City’s Ag Outlook Forum, and on Wednesday, the Missouri Innovation Center board meeting. I also very much look forward to welcoming CAFNR’s new faculty at an orientation and reception that afternoon.

Over the next two weeks I will attend faculty meetings with Plant Science and Technology; School of Natural Resources; and Food, Nutrition and Exercise Sciences. I also look forward to meeting with Morgan Corder, the deputy policy director for the Missouri Attorney General’s Office.

The Stamps Scholars event, hosted by President Choi, is coming up, and I will attend with CAFNR Stamps Scholar George Frees.

I take this opportunity again to thank Bill Lamberson, former division director for Animal Sciences, for his dedicated service to our college for more than 37 years. Dr. Lamberson’s retirement becomes official Oct. 5. We will miss you, Bill, but wish you all the best for a long and healthy retirement.

I hope your fall semester is packed with meaningful and energizing experiences and events. I look forward to seeing everyone at Novemberfest – please mark your calendars for 3 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 12. We plan to meet in person – but also offer a Zoom option, of course, especially for our faculty and staff at out-state locations.

CAFNR Proud,

Thank you Greg and Kelly DeLine for your generosity in this new public-private educational partnership. The DeLine Community Research Site will be an incredible resource for our college, #Mizzou and the entire community.
