Month in Review

I hope you are finding time to spend with friends and family and enjoy hobbies this summer. Rest and recharge are important for all of us. I’m looking forward to time away with my family later this summer.

I’m participating in the CAFNR Staff Summer Reading Group, reading “I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings” by Maya Angelou. I’ve enjoyed the conversations, as we dive deeper into a poetic and powerful narrative.

After a brief hiatus due to the pandemic, it’s time again for performance evaluations. For staff, ePerfomance is a streamlined rating process with three check-ins with your supervisor during the year. The form is now live in myHR for employees, and in PeopleSoft Manager Self-Services for supervisors. Please complete the required forms no later than July 31.

My meetings this month have included the IFT Finance Committee and some of CAFNR’s industry partners, including Missouri Soybean Association and the Danforth Center. Later this month, I will attend an event hosted by Missouri Corn Growers Association to honor Gary Marshall for 34 years of service and wish him well in retirement.

Science Night at Jefferson Farm and Garden is back! I hope you will plan to attend the ‘Help Save the Pollinators Tour’ on June 24 – pre-registration is required and event attendance is limited to 50 people. Stay tuned for more Science Night events throughout the summer!

Thank you for all that you do to keep CAFNR moving forward in our core missions!

Christopher R. Daubert, Ph.D.

Mary Hendrickson, associate professor in rural sociology, received the Excellence in Instruction Award at the Agriculture, Food and Human Value Society (AFHVS) virtual conference on Thursday, June 10. This award honors a member for outstanding teaching related to agriculture, food, and human values at the undergraduate and/or graduate level.

Of Note

CAFNR Faculty Mentoring Guidelines for both pre- and post-tenure faculty members are available. As a reminder, a number of resources for faculty and staff can be found on MyCAFNR, including updates on Show-Me Renewal, guidelines for applying the Mizzou brand via templates, and information on university policies.
