MU Digital Agriculture Research and Extension Center to host first Digital Agriculture Symposium »

The public is invited to take part in the symposium June 21 at the MU Digital Farm in Columbia.

The University of Missouri’s Digital Agriculture Research and Extension Center (DAREC) is hosting its first-ever Digital Agriculture Symposium, “Cultivating a Resilient Future: Harnessing Digital Innovation for a Climate-Smart Agriculture” in June.

“The landscape of agriculture is changing rapidly as digital technology advances,” said Jianfeng Zhou, associate professor of Agricultural Systems Technology in MU’s College of Agriculture, Food and Natural Resources. “We are delighted to be able to share these advances and some of our research in that space and help Missouri’s agricultural producers make informed decisions about incorporating these new technologies into their farming practices.”

The symposium consists of a Research Day for students and faculty June 20, and a Technology Day open to the public June 21 at the MU Digital Farm, which is part of MU’s South Farm. South Farm is located just east of Columbia on New Haven Road, and is part of the Missouri Agricultural Experiment Station’s Central Missouri Research, Extension and Education Center.

Technology Day participants will have the opportunity to take a tour of the new digital farm and see demonstrations of digital farming technologies like drones and self-driving tractors. They will also be able to speak to MU faculty who are conducting research on these new technologies.

Save the Date!

Save the date for the fourth annual CAFNR Research Symposium, showcasing how CAFNR students, post-docs, faculty and staff are working to create a healthy world. The symposium will be held Tuesday, Oct. 1, and will feature lightning talks, a poster session, research presentations and more.

A special event celebrating the 75th anniversary of the clinical potential of Aureomycin, the first tetracycline, a “wonder-drug” antibiotic discovered in the soil of Mizzou’s own Sanborn Field, will kick off the symposium on Monday, Sept. 30. Speakers will showcase the important connection between the health of our soil, food and world.

More information about the full schedule, and registering to attend, present a talk and/or a poster, will follow shortly. Save the date to celebrate this important discovery milestone and see how CAFNR’s research continues to aid our world today.

Padilla and colleagues received the American Heart Association Established Investigator Award. The project will use mouse and pig models of obesity and diabetes to study mechanisms of insulin resistance in blood vessels.

Statistical Assistance Available

CAFNR is co-funding the Center for Applied Statistics and Data Analysis (CASDA), and consults with statisticians are available. It is housed within the Department of Statistics in the College of Arts and Science. We are completing two years of this partnership with CASDA.

CASDA is a support center focused on providing statistical consulting and data analysis expertise to the Mizzou campus. They provide CAFNR access to a team of statisticians at various levels (PhD, Masters, GRA), pre- and post-award statistical support, experiment design consultation, recommendations for appropriate methods and software, programming support, data analysis support (coding, interpretation, journal methods write up (excluding graduate student theses)), and recommendations for contacts for new methodological development, if needed.

CASDA services are available free of charge to CAFNR faculty, staff, postdoctoral fellows, and students.
