A Message from the Associate Dean for Research
 (click to read)

As we head into August, it always feels like a busy time here in CAFNR. Our Research, Extension and Education Centers around the state are preparing to welcome hundreds of producers for field days. We are preparing to welcome students back to campus, and the CAFNR Research Council is starting to make plans for our Research Symposium. But, our research labs stay busy all year long; this year more than any year before, the numbers are showing the fruits of all of those labors.

I am thrilled to announce that our grant funding has continued to grow, and we have more than doubled the award amounts from just five years ago. You may recall that when we launched the strategic plan in 2019 our goal was to double grant funding and expenditures by FY2025. In FY2018, CAFNR saw $40,183,954 in grant awards, and in FY2023 that number has climbed to an impressive $110,160,012! This is all because of you, our amazing faculty, staff, students and postdocs! Our faculty are continuously engaging in innovative research and extending the knowledge, and our grants office staff are incredibly dedicated. The graph below shows the different source of the funding in FY2023. Our grant expenditures also set a new record in FY2023 with $62,320,234!

I want to give a heartfelt “thank you” to each of you who helped make this milestone happen!
