It has been a busy, but very meaningful, month of travel and activity! Seeing the room crowded with our scholarship donors and the students they support is always a highlight of the year for me. Thank you to our outstanding speakers, Dr. Angie Whitesell, biochemistry alumna, and her son, Owen Neely, a sophomore in biochemistry, who shared their CAFNR journeys and how scholarships aided them at our annual Scholarship Donor Recognition Dinner Thursday, Oct. 10. Please plan to attend two upcoming speaking engagements at Mizzou: - Tuesday, Oct. 22, our own Eric Aldrich, assistant teaching professor of atmospheric science, will give the Maxine Christopher Shutz Lecture for Distinguished Teaching beginning at 5 p.m. in Stotler Lounge, Memorial Union. I am honored to give a welcome, along with Pat Market, director of our School of Natural Resources. The Maxine Christopher Shutz Award and Lecture for Distinguished Teaching, sponsored by the Office of the Provost, seeks to recognize faculty members who have demonstrated extra efforts to involve undergraduates in active learning experiences, and to personalize the undergraduate experience of students.
- Thursday, Nov. 14, join Mun Y. Choi, University of Missouri President, at the 2024 President’s Distinguished Lecture featuring Harriet Kung, acting director of the Office of Science, U.S. Department of Energy. Her lecture, “Science for Energy,” will discuss the 21st century’s staggering challenges for more advanced energy technologies that are abundant, clean, and sustainable. The event will be at 10 a.m. in Monsanto Auditorium, Bond Life Sciences Center. The President’s Distinguished Lecture Series invites notable leaders of world-renowned research organizations, universities and other industries to share their expertise with the University of Missouri community.
