In honor of Black History Month, CAFNR is spotlighting some of our recent Black alumni throughout February. Follow the stories on our website, Facebook, LinkedIn or Instagram – we will add articles to showcase as the month goes on! Mizzou’s Black History Month theme for 2022 is Black Resistance, and events include film screenings, an exhibit, presentations and a trivia night. The keynote address, “Africa in the Global Landscape: Democracy, Food Security, and the Role of the Youth,” by Her Excellency Michelle Ndlaye, is co-sponsored by CAFNR, and will be Tuesday, Feb. 28. Ndiaye is special representative of the chairperson of the African Union, head of the African Union Liaison Office in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, and the granddaughter of Léopold Sédar Senghor, a founder of the Negritude Movement and the first President of Senegal. Learn more and see the schedule at the Black Studies website.
Each spring, CAFNR honors outstanding faculty, staff, students and alumni with awards at our Celebration of Excellence. This year, we are pleased to introduce an award to recognize efforts in creating and nurturing healthy communities and a diverse culture within CAFNR. The first CAFNR Inclusion Cultivator Award is open for nominations until March 1 – see the criteria and nomination information on CAFNR’s website.
