A Message from the Office of Research

It is bittersweet to share with you the news that Rhonda Turner, Executive Assistant, Office of Research, will be retiring as of Friday, Nov. 14. Rhonda has been a tremendous asset to our CAFNR research enterprise, and I truly wish her all the best as she transitions into her next chapter!

We have hired Sue Leutschaft to fill the role; Sue is now working side-by-side Rhonda during this transition period. Reach out to Sue with any requests at leutschafts@missouri.edu. She joins us from the College of Veterinary Medicine.

Please join me in thanking Rhonda Turner for more than 25 years of service to Mizzou and CAFNR, and in welcoming Sue to the CAFNR Research Office!

Pavel Somavat to present at next CAFNR Research Council webinar

The CAFNR Office of Research is pleased to announce the continuation of the CAFNR Research Council Webinar Series featuring speakers discussing a timely topic. The next webinar will feature Pavel Somavat, assistant professor with a joint appointment in the Division of Food, Nutrition & Exercise Sciences and the Department of Chemical & Biomedical Engineering, speaking on “Leveraging the US Corn Ecosystem for Producing Natural Food Colorants and Value-added Bioactive Compounds,” Wednesday, Nov. 19, beginning at 3:30 p.m. His research interests are multi-disciplinary and include extraction optimization of anthocyanins and polyphenolic compounds from pigmented corn varieties and utilizing them for novel, value-added applications.

Access advanced computing resources through Nautilus

The Division of Information Technology Research Support Solutions team (ITRSS) is hosting a workshop on Wednesday, Nov. 12, to help researchers access cutting-edge computing resources through Nautilus, a large-scale computer cluster.

The workshop will provide researchers with a hands-on introduction to leveraging the large, distributed computing resources available through the National Research Platform (NRP).

Jose named to World Agriculture Forum Global Council

Shibu Jose, associate dean of research and director of the Missouri Agricultural Experiment Station, has been named a member of the Global Council of the World Agriculture Forum (WAF).

Based in The Netherlands, WAF envisions a transformative future where global agriculture is defined by boundless innovation, dynamic growth, unparalleled productivity and unwavering sustainability. Among its goals is to act as a dynamic convergence platform for regional and global bodies to boost trade and cooperation, and equip farmers with skills and advanced technology to boost productivity and access to global markets while driving high-tech, value-added agricultural solutions to address global challenges. Jose’s involvement will include setting the agenda for meaningful change, engaging with key stakeholders and advocating for policies that will transform farming practices and food systems for a food- and nutrition-secure world.
