An alumnus heads the effort to teach Marines battlefield lessons
With suicide bombers, improvised explosive devices and combatants wearing civilian clothes, the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan are unlike previous conflicts that Americans have had to fight. To better prepare current and future Marines against these threats, it is imperative that the U.S. military systematically collect, evaluate and distribute the hard lessons learned on the battlefield.
Bryan Garton Assumes Leadership of CAFNR Academic Programs
Bryan L. Garton was recently named interim associate dean and director of academic programs for MU’s College of Agriculture, Food and Natural Resources. He previously served as CAFNR’s assistant dean of academic programs and professor of agricultural education.

James Groves Wins Technology Award
James Groves, CAFNR hotel and restaurant management chair and associate professor, has won the University of Missouri 2008 Excellence in Teaching with Technology Award in the Undergraduate Teaching Category.

This year’s Outstanding Senior, Ashley Noblitt from Bolivar, Mo., is getting her wish to be a teacher. She has accepted a position as an agricultural education teacher and FFA adviser in Hermitage, Mo.
A Good Career Market for CAFNR Graduates
“Placement this year in agriculture continues to be very strong,” said Stephanie Chipman, career services director at CAFNR. “Last year, our placement rate, 94 percent, was second only to nursing among all schools and colleges at Mizzou,” she said. “This year, early indications are that placement will be at least that good if not better. An unofficial poll of graduating seniors in early March indicated that better than half already had full-time positions lined up.”
CAFNR Ag Journalism Sophomore Wins Emerging Leadership Award
Whitney Wallace, CAFNR class of 2010 agricultural journalism major, was awarded the 2008 Emerging Leadership Award by the University of Missouri Department of Student Life’s Center for Leadership Development.
