Greetings, all!

I am so very happy to be sharing good news with you in this special edition of CAFNR Connected. During the recently completed “Mizzou: Our Time to Lead” fundraising campaign, the contributions of CAFNR’s alumni and friends totaled more than $136 million, shattering the original goal of $100 million! We are incredibly grateful for this generous support, as it helps us to recruit and retain top faculty, conduct groundbreaking research, and, most importantly, enable deserving students to afford the CAFNR experience. We appreciate each and every gift we received, all of which had meaningful stories behind them. I want to share with you a sample of some of my favorites.

Our very own CAFNR Alumni Association contributed more than $550k during the campaign. Through activities like the annual CAFNR Unlimited Auction and CAFNR Tiger Golf Classic, they raise funds in support of the CAFNR Experience, including scholarships, student activities, and programming through the CAFNR 150 Endowment. They give out 30 scholarships of $2,000 each year, and $25k in annual grants, impacting students across all disciplines in the college. (Register here for the virtual CAFNR Tiger Classic Golf Tournament and 5K this year!)

The Ag Systems Management Club spent multiple years raising funds through their lawn mower tune-up clinic and annual pancake breakfast, to create a scholarship in the name of “Mama Sandy,” aka Sandy Zaring, a beloved staff member of the ASM department. These students banded together to help raise money from their fellow students as well as alumni to honor her, and nothing makes me prouder than seeing our students work hard to support others, as Sandy did for them. (Honoring ‘Mama Sandy’)

Our own faculty are incredibly generous and have given back to Mizzou in many ways. One tireless example is Dr. Virginia Peterson, Professor Emerita of Biochemistry. She and her husband, Dr. Charles Peterson, have honored Mizzou with an estate commitment to support the Virginia E. Peterson Scholarship in Biochemistry. She has dedicated her career and her legacy to CAFNR, and for that, we are immensely grateful. (A Dedicated Legacy)

While many recent graduates are busy establishing themselves in their life and career, one recent grad made it a priority to give back early on. Brandon Thiel understands that little gifts can make a big difference, and we are so grateful for his generosity! (Saying Thank You)

Finally, I want to thank MFA Inc., MFA Oil, and the MFA Foundation for their incredible support and partnerships throughout this campaign (as well as long before it!).  We are so lucky to have a corporation like MFA supporting our efforts in CAFNR and are proud to be connected in our shared missions to make the State of Missouri stronger. (A Historic Partnership)

I hope you might enjoy a few more of our favorite articles as part of this special issue of CAFNR Connected. We are lucky to have so many wonderful stories to share!

To each and every one of you that made a gift during this campaign – THANK YOU. Every gift of every size makes a difference – it takes all of us working together to make progress, and today I am proud of the CAFNR community for all giving back to make our College, our University, and our society a better place.

Thank you,

Christopher R. Daubert, Ph.D.
