Ernie Verslues is President and Chief Executive Officer of MFA Incorporated, a farmer-owned supply and marketing cooperative based in Columbia, Mo. MFA serves 45,000 farmers by providing agronomic and livestock inputs, grain marketing, farm supplies, precision agriculture solutions and financing.
Under his leadership, MFA Incorporated has continued to refine its service to member-owners by empowering the cooperative’s employees to focus on operational excellence and matching value-added solutions to each farm’s needs.
Ernie joined MFA in 1987 as manager of Tax and Local Accounting Services. During his career, he has served as controller in MFA’s Agri Services Division, as a regional manager for MFA retail operations and corporate controller. He was promoted to vice president and chief financial officer in 2010 and named MFA Incorporated president and CEO in 2015.
Before joining MFA, Ernie worked as an auditor in Kansas City.
Ernie is a council member for the National Council of Farmer Cooperatives and chairman for the MFA Foundation and the MFA Charitable Foundation. Ernie currently serves on the Executive Committee for the University of Missouri College of Agriculture, Food and Natural Resources Foundation Board and has been part of the Missouri 100 since 2017. In 2018, Ernie was named an Honorary Member of MU’s CAFNR, and he has served on the Graduate Institute of Cooperative Leadership Board of Directors since 2016.
Ernie graduated magna cum laude with a bachelor’s in accounting from Central Missouri State University in Warrensburg. He was raised on his parents’ dairy farm near Taos, Mo. He and his wife, Jan, have three grown children and three grandchildren.
