This week, the Mizzou Alumni Association and Alumni Association Student Board named the 2022 Mizzou 18 Award and Mizzou ’39 Award recipients. In the spirit of service that was the cornerstone of the 1839 founding of the University of Missouri, the Mizzou Alumni Association Student Board presents the Mizzou ’39 Award to 39 outstanding seniors each year. Six CAFNR students earned the honor:

Arab American Heritage Month/Asian Pacific Islander Heritage Month

During the next two months, CAFNR will celebrate Arab American Heritage Month (April), and Asian Pacific Islander Heritage Month (May). In working with our IDEC Committee, the CAFNR Marketing and Communications team will highlight some undergraduate and graduate students throughout both months. CAFNR is looking for Arab American and Asian Pacific Islander students who would be willing to share their experiences while at Mizzou, with a focus on their degree program and other activities.

Personal financial planning degree program has helped senior Emily Meyer prepare for her future

Agricultural Systems Technology Club Lawn Mower Clinic

The Agricultural Systems Technology (AST) Club Lawn Mower Clinic will take place in mid-April at the Ag Engineering Building Courtyard, 1406 Rollins St. The club is asking that mowers be dropped off between 7-9 a.m. or 3-6 p.m. on Wednesday, April 6, through Friday, April 8. Mowers can be picked up from 7-9 a.m. or 3-6 p.m. on Monday, April 11, through Wednesday, April 13. A $40 service fee will be collected at pick up, and services included are a power wash, new spark plug, sharpening/balancing of blade, cleaning the air filter and changing the engine oil. Nutrition and exercise physiology degree incorporated all of Mubinah Khaleel’s interest areas

• Jacob Knaebel, a senior in agricultural education, recently took home first place in the American Farm Bureau Federation Young Farmers and Ranchers Collegiate Discussion Meet. Knaebel competed during the 2022 Farm Bureau Young Farmers and Ranchers leadership conference, held in Louisville, Kentucky.
• The Mizzou Academic Quadrathlon team recently competed at the American Society of Animal Science Midwest Section annual meeting in Omaha, Nebraska, finishing first place overall. The team includes:

  • Kirby Latimer, Animal Sciences
  • Heather Vaughn (Snow), Animal Sciences
• Kristen Barwick, a sophomore studying biochemistry, was recently awarded an NSF-funded travel grant for $1,500 to present her research project, as a poster, at the 2022 Plant Cell Biology International Conference in August. The grant was given to around 25 undergraduate and postdoctoral students from labs throughout the United States. Barwick is part of the Honors College at Mizzou and works in the lab of Antje Heese, an associate professor of biochemistry. Barwick joined Heese’s lab in early 2021 through the Freshman Research in Plants (FRIPS) Program.
• Freshman Keegan O’Toole, a personal financial planning major, became the University of Missouri wrestling program’s ninth individual national champion Saturday night inside Little Caesars Arena in Detroit, at 165 pounds. The Tigers closed the 2021-22 season with a ninth-place finish at the NCAA Championships, concluding the tournament in the top-10 for the seventh consecutive season. Rocky Elam, a freshman studying agriculture, also earned All-American honors, finishing fourth at 197 pounds.
