Fisher Delta Research Center Field Day to highlight work benefiting agriculture

The 53rd Annual Field Day will be held on Sept. 2. Registration and breakfast starts at 7 a.m. in Rone Hall, located at the Lee Farm just east of Portageville. Four educational tours will start at 8:30 a.m. and will feature informational talks on cotton, crop protection, soybeans and crop monitoring.

Volunteer-driven CoCoRaHS includes daily precipitation reports

A valuable tool in monitoring precipitation is CoCoRaHS. The free online database includes daily reports of precipitation collected through a grassroots effort of volunteers that measure and submit to the website at www.cocorahs.org. The data is then mapped out to allow users quick and easy access to rainfall amounts in their area.

In a collaboration that brings together audio and chemical analysis, MU researchers have determined that plants respond to the sounds that caterpillars make when eating plants and that the plants respond with more defenses.
