If you’re interested in using the latest in food manufacturing to turn agricultural commodities into products that consumers want to buy, then a career in food science and nutrition is for you.
Acquire a broad knowledge of the food industry and culinary practices while earning your food science and nutrition degree from Mizzou’s College of Agriculture, Food and Natural Resources. Individualize your degree program by choosing between three tracks: food science, food business and culinary science.

Apply the principles of many scientific disciplines, such as biology, chemistry, engineering, physics, molecular biology, nutrition and microbiology, to the challenges of food production as a food technologist for a respected industry company like General Mills, Kellogg or Kraft Heinz.
Focus on aspects of food manufacturing such as consumer acceptability, economics, production feasibility and marketing as a product developer. Developers also explore new ways to enhance nutritional value and health benefits.
Work in the private industry or for a government agency such as the U.S. Department of Agriculture or the Food and Drug Administration as a quality assurance supervisor. They are responsible for reviewing safety and manufacturing protocol to ensure that the food you eat is safe and of the highest quality.

A minor in entrepreneurship can supplement a food science and nutrition degree. The curriculum focuses on the three pillars of entrepreneurship: management, creativity and innovation. Coursework includes a workshop series, three credit hours of studying each pillar and a one credit hour experiential seminar.
