Outstanding Student Awards

The CAFNR Student Council annually recognizes students who have demonstrated the core values of the University of Missouri and qualities of excellence associated with the College of Agriculture, Food and Natural Resources. Faculty, staff and CAFNR clubs/organization may nominate one student for each academic level (Freshman, Sophomore, Junior, Senior).

Eligibility: Must be currently enrolled in the College of Agriculture, Food and Natural Resources

Apply for one of the following academic levels:

  • Freshman: First academic year at Mizzou
  • Sophomore: Second academic year at Mizzou
  • Junior: Third academic year at Mizzou
  • Senior: Graduating in May, August or December 2021

Applications must include:

  • Outstanding Student Award Application (Word)
  • Statement addressing, “I should be considered for the CAFNR Outstanding Student award because…” (limit to 500 words, single space within paragraphs, 1” margins, and 12 pt. font)
  • Resume (1 page maximum, 1” margins, minimum 11 pt. font)
  • Supporting documents addressing the selection criteria (4 page maximum), may include letters of support (1 page per letter, maximum of two letters), outstanding course project, etc.

Application deadline: Friday, March 19, 2021, at 5 p.m.

Submit all materials in a single PDF document via email attachment to CAFNRStuCo@missouri.edu.

The PDF document should be named using the applicants full last name, first initial, underscore, then the academic level. Ex: SmithJ_Sophomore

Selection criteria:

  1. Evidence of Excellence (includes cumulative GPA, minor(s), major(s), certification(s), award nominations, honors projects, etc.)
  2. Innovative Thinking (includes research, hands-on learning opportunities, internships or work experience)
  3. Inspirational Impact (includes study abroad programs, engagement & leadership in student organizations)
  4. Personal Connections (includes relationships, CAFNR & degree program involvement, volunteer opportunities, etc.)

Selection: A panel representing the following groups will review applications and select recipients: 1) Student council representative(s), 2) Faculty, 3) Emeriti Faculty, 4) Staff, and/or 5) Alumni.

Outstanding Student Club/Organization

The CAFNR Student Council annually recognizes a student club/organization that has demonstrated the core values of the University of Missouri and qualities of excellence associated with the College of Agriculture, Food and Natural Resources.

Minimum Eligibility: The club/organization must be recognized and in good standing with the University’s Organization Resource Group (ORG).

The previous year’s outstanding club/organization recipient is not eligible.

Application must include:

  • Outstanding Club-Organization Award Application (Word)
  • Mission/Purpose Statement of the club/organization (limited to 100 words)
  • Campus activities/events and narrative (limited to 500 words)
  • Community service and engagement narrative (limited to 250 words)
  • President’s Statement regarding organization’s commitment to excellence (limited to 250 words)
  • Supporting documents (2 page maximum), may include photos, fliers, display monitor slide, etc.

General Format:

  • Margins: 1”
  • Font: 12 pt.

Application deadline: Friday, March 19, 2021, at 5 p.m.

Submit all materials in a single PDF document via email attachment to CAFNRStuCo@missouri.edu.

The PDF document should be named using an abbreviated club/organization name (20 characters maximum), underscore, then year. Ex: Sigma Alpha_2021

Selection: A panel representing the following groups will review applications and make the selection: 1) Student council representative(s), 2) Faculty, 3) Emeriti Faculty, 4) Staff, and 5) Alumni.
