2015 Outstanding Sophomore: Samantha Coulson
Samantha Coulson, Green City, Mo., serves as the CAFNR Student Council Secretary, an Agricultural Education and Leadership Ambassador, an Agricultural Education Society member, a member of the CAFNR Week Steering Committee, a Summer Welcome Leader, and a Sigma Alpha Professional Sorority member, among others. She is a Litton Leadership Scholar, and since 2014 has been an educator with Agricultural Education on the Move, where she spends 10 weeks with third graders, teaching them agricultural topics such as corn, soil and careers.
Coulson was included on the CAFNR Dean's List in 2013 and 2014. Earlier this year she traveled to Christchurch, New Zealand, as a study abroad student. There she learned about sustainable agriculture, viticulture and enology, dairy farming, tourism and beekeeping.
"I enjoy serving on both CAFNR Week Steering Committee and the CAFNR Student Council because they are a great way to meet and work with people from all majors within the College and learn more about their interests," Coulson said. "Meeting all incoming CAFNR students truly made my love for the CAFNR faculty and students even greater."
From advising Sam, having her in class, and watching her grow and emerge as a leader in a short period of time I can say that she is the kind of person I see who embodies the CAFNR spirit. She's passionate and enthusiastic, she wants to serve and she loves connecting with people. As her advisor, I'm proud Sam is one of our students and I anticipate seeing her face in higher and higher leadership roles across the department and CAFNR as she evolves through her college career.
