2012 Outstanding Freshman: Kaitlin Flick
Kaitlin Flick has earned a 3.4 cumulative GPA. She is the Sigma Alpha Professional Agriculture Sorority's Membership Candidate Representative. She was one of 10 in the nation to receive the Monsanto scholarship to attend the Sigma Alpha and Alpha Gamma Rho leadership conference. Flick has volunteered at The Food Bank in Columbia, and is the Agronomy Club Secretary.
In 2009 she was named a D.A.R.E. Role Model and participated in producing a movie about the dangers of drunk driving. She travels to fifth grade classes to speak to children about different ways to say no to drugs, alcohol, tobacco, and promote a healthy lifestyle. In May 2011 Flick received the Pleasant Hill FFA Star Farmer Award and was named the DeKalb Outstanding Senior.
"Her drive and ability to juggle responsibilities are admirable traits that she possessed before college," said Emily Brundick, president of the Alpha Chi Chapter of Sigma Alpha. "While in high school she held many leadership positions, including serving as an Area VII FFA Officer and as an active member of her local Community Betterment Association. Her energy, optimism and work ethic will allow her to excel."
"Kaitlin always has a positive attitude and is the first to volunteer her time and efforts. She took the initiative to organize a large-scale service project that involves coordinating multiple CAFNR student organizations to implement a tree planting to help tornado victims in Joplin. Kaitlin did an outstanding job submitting applications for funding to help with the costs of this event."
