2012 Outstanding Organization: Sigma Alpha Professional Agriculture Sorority
The Alpha Chi Chapter of Sigma Alpha Professional Agriculture Sorority has 67 active members for the 2011-2012 school year. Its objective is to promote agriculture and to strengthen the bonds of friendship.
This year Sigma Alpha adopted two families in financial need. The chapter bought specialized gifts and gift cards for meals to help these families through the holiday season. Each spring, approximately 40 members assist the Food Bank for Central and Northeast Missouri. Members also volunteer to walk dogs for the Central Missouri Humane Society.
In 2010-2011 Sigma Alpha earned awards for Outstanding Sisterhood Program, Outstanding Public Service and Outstanding Professional Development. Member Sami Jo Freeman was named Outstanding National Leader, Erin Mohler was named Outstanding National Senior and Jane Loudermilk was named Outstanding National Advisor.
The Alpha Chi chapter has been working towards establishing an annual chapter philanthropy and participated in the Mizzou Relay for Life for the second consecutive year. Last year Sigma Alpha raised $160 to donate to Mizzou's Relay for Life campaign. The night of the Relay there were 20 volunteers throughout the 12-hour event to coordinate the booth and facilitate the 50/50 Raffle fundraiser.
