2009 Outstanding Organization: Alpha Gamma Rho
ALPHA GAMMA RHO's mission is to be the premier fraternity building values, skills and relationships for lifelong personal and professional success in the food, fiber and life sciences professions. The organization strives to improve agriculture by encouraging its members to be resourceful and develop better mental, social, moral and physical qualities. It also promotes a broader outlook of the profession through fellowship in a national organization.
"Members of Alpha Gamma Rho are known for their leadership, service, academic achievement and positive attitude," said Lloyd Wilson, director of Ag Business Development at the Missouri Department of Agriculture. "At CAFNR, they are actively involved in every academic division and serve as leaders and key members of every extra-curricular club. Members are integral to every CAFNR student committee, student activity and the Ag Student Council."
Alpha Gamma Rho has received several awards from University of Missouri Greek Life including the Director's Cup for Activities, President's Cup for Leadership, Columbia Cup for Innovation Programs and Best Scholarship Program certificate.
The CAFNR chapter has also been recognized by the fraternity's national convention, earning a High Honor in Recruiting Excellence and Chapter History and an Honorable Mention for Scholarship Programs.
Alpha Gamma Rho teams with MU's Phi Mu sorority in several activities including intramural sports, dances and a blood drive. The fraternity hosted four visitors from Hokkaido University in Japan and furnished a booth at the 2008 CAFNR Fall Round Up.
