2009 J.W. Burch Award: Timothy Safranski

Timothy Safranski

TIMOTHY SAFRANSKI, associate professor and state extension swine breeding specialist in the Division of Animal Sciences, has been with MU since 1996 and serves as the state-wide resource person for regional extension livestock specialists, swine producers, veterinarians and support personnel in genetics and reproductive management. His focus areas include enhancing reproductive efficiency.

Safranski was a leader in the development of the Boar Stud Manager's Conference, a meeting that included half of boar producers in the U.S. He also helped develop Missouri's Quality Lean Index for evaluating animals at the State Fair, and helped create an intensive two-day workshop on artificial insemination.

In 2007, Safranski won the National Pork Board Swine Innovation and Education Award. The National Pork Producers Council honored him for innovation in education in 2001. In 2000 he earned the Provost's Award for Creative Extension Programming by New Faculty.

Safranski is a member of the American Society of Animal Science and the Missouri Pork Producers Association. He is an affiliate member of the American Association of Swine Veterinarians and served as a member of the American Society of Animal Science editorial board.

Dr. Safranski is widely sought as an expert in swine management across the U.S. and internationally."
