William Riggins

William (Bill) Riggins, after graduating from the University of Missouri in 1973 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Ag Mechanization, quickly rose through the ranks in the ag business arena, polishing his skills in sales. He established a partnered ag input business and later his own fertilizer/ag-chemical application equipment business.

Riggins was born on a farm in rural Gentry County, Mo. After serving in the U.S. Army from 1966 to 1969, he came to MU. He initially was employed by Eli Lilly, then Baker Agri-Sales in Sedalia, Mo. In 1981 with two partners, he started Brunswick Agri-Service in Brunswick, Mo. This was a retail fertilizer, chemical and custom application operation. A second location was added at Norborne in 1984.

In 1988 he sold his interest in this company and founded Riggins R-CO, Inc. in Marshall, Mo. This company sold fertilizer and pesticide handling and application equipment in Kansas, Oklahoma and Missouri.

Riggins is involved in many local community projects. He joined the Marshall Chamber of Commerce and the Marshall Planning and Zoning Commission. He has been a member of the Marshall Boosters Club and other school and community organizations. He is a member of the Mar-Saline Development Corporation. He is currently co-chair of a $3 million capital campaign to fund a civic center and aviation museum in Marshall. This project was completed this spring. In 1976, he realized his lifelong dream to become a pilot and own an airplane.

Riggins served on the Missouri Agribusiness Association as a member, member of the board of directors, and chairman. In 2002 he was the recipient of the Ag Leader of the Year award.

Riggins has supported both MU’s athletic department and CAFNR. He has provided teaching and research equipment to CAFNR for many years, is a member of the Monticello Society, the Jefferson Club, the Tiger Scholarship Fund and the Ag Alumni Association.

"HE OPERATED WITH THE BEST INTERESTS OF DEALERS AND THEIR FARMER-CUSTOMERS IN MIND. HE BELIEVES IN HELPING ALL THOSE IN AGRICULTURE TO BE SUCCESSFUL. THE EQUIPMPMENT MANUFACTURERS VALUED HIS BUSINESS AS ONE THAT REPRESENTED THEIR LINES IN THE BEST WAY POSSIBLE. PEOPLE WANTED TO ASSOCIATE AND DO BUSINESS WITH BILL RIGGINS."
