Columbia Mid-Missouri Restaurant Association awarded a total of $14,000 for 10 Hospitality Management students this year. Biochemistry's Mawhinney receives Medicine's Teaching Award

Professor of Biochemistry Tom Mawhinney received the 2014 Jane Hickman Teaching Award from the MU School of Medicine. This is the first time in the 24 years of the Hickman Award that it has been given to a faculty member with a primary appointment outside of the School of Medicine.


Biochemistry student awarded Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship

The American Society of Plant Biologists (ASPB) awarded Sean Rogers, sophomore Biochemistry student, a 2014 Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship (SURF). The funding is awarded to undergraduate students allowing them to conduct meaningful research in plant biology during the early part of their college careers. The University of Missouri Plant Diagnostic Clinic (PDC) reopened April 1, with new clinic director Patricia Wallace leading. The Clinic will once again provide assistance to county Extension specialists, commercial businesses and citizens in Missouri with their pest problems.

MU professor receives prestigious award

Brad S. Fresenburg, assistant extension professor, plant sciences, received the 2013 Dr. William H. Daniel Founders Award from the Sports Turf Manager Association. The Sports Turf Manager Association’s (STMA) highest honors, the four Founders Awards, recognize those individuals who have made significant contributions to STMA and to the profession. These awards are presented annually at the Sports Turf Manager Conference and Awards Banquet. This year’s banquet was held in San Antonio, Texas, on Jan. 24.
